These collages by Francisca Pageo are pretty darn neat and remind me just how much I’d love to start my own little journal, filled with cutouts and hand lettering. I’ve been thinking about getting a simple ( and small ) moleskin notebook and starting it up. Anyone else do this??

classy moodboard

I’m pumped to share a moodboard with you guys for a project I’m currently working on. Although I can’t say much about the project, the board speaks for itself, right?? Somethings about to be classy / casual and totally fun to work on! The coral-y colors will be secondary “pop,” while the navy, sage, and neutrals will be at the forefront. Let’s go!

I was lucky enough to work with the lovely + talented lady behind Paper Fashion, Katie, on her new blog design! We wanted to convey both her personality and illustration aesthetic into a happy little place where her work could live. Simplicity with flair.

Honestly, it was hard NOT to be inspired while working on this project … simply because I was surrounded by Katie’s gorgeous illustrations + glitter on a daily basis. She’s great at what she does, guys, and I couldn’t be more happy to know her! Now, I know you don’t want to read more, so check out the design LIVE, right here.

You guys. I want to DIY something like this SO bad … they’re definitely on my wishlist of things to make, that’s for sure. I have so many pens, pencils, markers and little gadgets that need to be in a much spiffier place. Currently, it’s an old mug that I could do without. Time to get crackin’! If you’re not into DIY, but love what you see, these can be purchased here. Awesome, right??

Not only are these collages by Natalie Nicklin super amazing + colorful, but you can buy all of her prints right here. I’m sort of obsessed. I’ve been wanting to get my hands on some gorgeous photography so I can make fun prints. I guess I should bust out my camera more, huh??

coming along

I wanted to update you all on my business rebranding process so far! Ever since coming to a crossroads and hearing all of your opinions, I’m been extremely motivated to get things off the ground! When I have an idea, I go for it … that’s just how I am. Needless to say, I’m very close to launching everything. Early April it is!

I’ve already rebranded myself, designed ( + coded ) my new portfolio, designed a matching blog, and made business cards. So, I thought I’d share a little peek into what’s going on. The above image is from making my own business cards last night. DIY cards sure are friendly to my wallet! And below that, you’ll see just a few fonts that are being used in my brand. I don’t want to share the finished product just yet, so I thought this would be fun for now!

My latest post for Be Free, Lance on Studio Sweet Studio went up yesterday. It’s about one of my FAVORITE parts of the design process … moodboards!! Here’s a little snippet :

“One of the most crucial parts of my process as a freelance designer has always been creating moodboards for my clients. It serves as an important visual communication tool between us and is often what I use as my final stamp of approval before designing even begins. The goal? To make sure everyone is on the same page. Now, moodboards aren’t just about putting images together in a pretty way. It’s actually a larger process that I’ve shaped over time to the needs of myself + my clients. It goes a little something like this :

First things first, I always like to open communication right away with my clients. We talk pretty generally about a project in the beginning. A brief dialogue about design aesthetics and project guidelines are covered in this part so everyone knows what’s expected of each other. Once I have a firm grasp on the project, I take time to develop a questionnaire for my clients to answer via google docs. If you haven’t heard about this, it’s basically an online version of microsoft office. I like to create a document that my client and I can share and fill out as time goes on. It’s a great way to collect important information and archive it for later. Plus, you don’t have to send files back and forth. It’s all automatically saved for everyone! You’re probably thinking to yourself … what’s up with all this google doc talk and why aren’t we talking about moodboards?? Well, I actually use all collected information from clients to develop moodboards, so it’s definitely relavent + important.”
